Mary Shrine nearing completion

Sitting in the midst of the courtyard and near the memorial garden, the Mary Shrine was the dream of artist, carver, sculptor and Anglican mystic Robert Lobdell, who years ago created the Madonna and Child wood carving that is now housed within the shrine.

Mister Lobdell (who also created the Stations of the Cross, the Courtyard Cross Corpus and two more crucifixes that hang within Saint Luke's) handed me a scale model of what he wanted for the Mary Shrine shortly after he had presented the Madonna and Child to the parish, almost thirteen years ago now.

At the beginning of this year two Boy Scouts - our own Adam and Kevin de Szendeffy - took on the project to build the Mary Shrine, which will be completed this weekend.  The above picture shows the shrine, looking at the back of the building, as of last Monday, and the photo below is a "facing front" shot.

When attending Mass on Sunday, take a peek at the Shrine.  You can gaze into it, but won't be able to enter, as the tile grout will be administered sometime Sunday.  Next week we'll post more pictures, and will also announce the date of the Shrine's dedication, which will occur on a Sunday during Advent.

As our parish church is, so, too, is the shrine. It is a place to come and pray, meditate, and thank God for the blessings He has so freely bestowed upon us in His Son's Name.
