Preparing for tomorrow's Mass - July 4, 2010 (5 Trinity)

Tomorrow we will be celebrating both Independence Day and the 5th Sunday after Trinity.

Before attending mass tomorrow, read the propers for the day, and think on these things:

- regarding the collect, how close are we to those days petitioned for? that is, is ours a "peaceable ordered" world?

- Is your parish church "of one mind," as encouraged to be in the epistle? If so, how so? If not, why not? What are you doing, personally, to help the arrival of "one mind" within the faithful?

- Would you have been as responsive to Jesus as Simon Peter was in the gospel?

On another note, tomorrow morning there will be an extra and special posting on this blog: George Washington's Prayer, which he wrote at Newburg on June 8, 1783, and sent to the Governors of all the States. In that posting we will also include a link to our Novena for The United States of America.

Finally, here's last year's meditation for the 5th Sunday after Trinity...
