Galatians 4:21-31

23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

Shirley DuBois' Requiem Mass - 2:00 pm Saturday, March 5, 2011
As I mentioned in a previous email, our dear Shirley DuBois died this week. She was one of the founding members of our parish and, in fact, was on the search committee that called me to the Verde Valley way back in 1984. Through the years she was a bastion of faith and love to all who knew her, and we will celebrate her Requiem Mass at two o'clock in the afternoon this Saturday, March 5. Her ashes will be put into the Memorial Garden at a later date, no doubt this month or next. Do come and join us as we give thanks to God for Shirley's presence in our midst, and ask that light perpetual shine on her forever more.
Ash Wednesday - March 9, 2011
The Ash Wednesday Mass and Imposition of Ashes will take place at noon. If you are working, take an hour off, and be assured that you will be able to make it back to your employment by 1:15 pm.
Sedona Jazz at the Church Concert - 1:00 pm Sunday, March 13, 2011
That's also the 1st Sunday in Lent, and the concert will take place following the 10am Mass and Coffee hour. Billy Mitchell comes back into our presence, and will be joined by a plethora of gifted musicians. As his concerts always are, the day will be a wonderful afternoon of exceptional music and joy in God's House!

Live Mass Streamings on the Internet
Live streamings of the 8 am Sunday Masses begin this month. It has taken a bit of time to come online, because what we are doing has not really been done before. Certainly there are churches who stream their Sunday services, but we are going to stream the Mass in High Definition with both visual and audio clarity the likes of which hasn't been accomplished as of this date.
Made possible through a grant from the Jazzbird Foundation of Scottsdale, Arizona, the creator of this fabulous evangelistic endeavor is EAR Professional Audio Video of Phoenix, Arizona. EAR's own John Gibson heads a gifted team of "Techno-Experimentologists" which has been creating the blending of all of the audio and video paraphernalia necessary for this truly unique ministry, and we are coming very close to the day when the camera, microphones and lighting will be installed and we'll begin this new ministry. [Incidentally, we will be using the Video and Audio capabilities for our Jazz at the Church Concerts, also!]
Some final thoughts and thanksgivings for our parish.
As all parishioners know, ours is a unique ministry at Saint Luke's Church. It's always been that way, and will continue to be so in the years to come. We not only exist as a "family of Christians" who live in the Verde Valley, Northern Arizona and Phoenix areas, but we also have innumerable visitors who, while on holiday, find our lovely parish, visit us for a bit of holy time in our courtyard and church, attend Sunday mass, and have the Seeds of the Gospel planted in their hearts.
Then there is our YouTube Ministry, which gives the weekly meditation videos to those who visit the site. A strong evangelistic effort, the videos have had more than 55,000 viewings as of today, and will only expand as time progresses.
The result? God is glorified and people are strengthened, and they carry those experiences with them the rest of their life, no matter where they go and what they must endure.
People know us, then, throughout the world. We have had visitors from every continent, and whether they come to Sedona or find us on the internet, it matters not. What matters is that the Gospel is offered to them all.
And now we are going to stream the liturgy!!
What other "small" church does so much with so few?
If you are geographically close to the church, you belong in the Lord's House on the Lord's Day. If you cannot attend, you can still profit spiritually through the time you give to God, by watching the meditations, reading the Bible daily through the resources available on www.episcopalnet.org, and making your Spiritual Communion on Sundays through the live streamings of the Mass.
Lent is a very good time, indeed, to renew our commitment to God and His church. Will you join me in that endeavor? You'll be glad you did.

7 The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David;
6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
8 The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

The First Lesson
Genesis 8:6-22
6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
15 And God spake unto Noah, saying,
16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee.
17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him:
19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Second Lesson
Mark 8:11-26
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw aught.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
