Providence and Free Will Examined Sunday

Sunday's masses at Saint Luke's Church include the music by the great masters of Christian Hymnody, the rich liturgy of the historic Anglican Church, and a sermon entitled "God's Providential Nature and Man's Free Will."

The two readings combine with the collect, or prayer, for the day, and form the basis for the sermon.  In Romans Paul addresses life in the flesh and life in the Spirit, together with the Christian's calling to suffering for the sake of the faith.

Matthew's reading from the 7th chapter of the book adds the dimension of  Jesus' warning about false prophets, together with a very clear warning, "Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father in heaven."
Hymns contained in the liturgy include J.S. Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," George Duffield's "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus," and the John Day's Psalter hymn, "Lo! What a Cloud of Witnesses."

Sunday is also Food Ingathering, so be sure to be your offering to the Old Town Mission's endeavor!
